Mimita's Cuban Cafe is my favorite but you will need to drive to Chandler. It is the most authentic and close to homemade I have found in Phoenix area.

I have had the Cubano at both of these places and enjoyed them however, they are Mexican tortas and significantly different from a traditioinal cuban sandwich.

I some parts of Mexico "Cubano" or "Cubana" is a slang reference for "crazy person." I don't think the torta cubana is a reference to the traditional Cuban sandwich.

I've never heard that before but it's possible. A torta Cubano has some of the same ingredients as a Cuban Sandwich but not all and it's not pressed. It is a crazy sandwich so maybe you're correct.

Yeah -- among the ingredients I've eaten in a torta cubana are a beef cutlet milanese, beans, avocado, fried egg, salsa, onion -- none of which are in a Cuban sandwich -- along with pork, ham, cheese; all of these in the same sandwich. I may be overlooking something, it can be hard to tell. I ask them to hold the mayo.

Sabor Cubano -- no longer a buffet; serves a full menu, including the classic sandwich

Traditional style; go right to the source - Havana Cafe.

Not so traditional, but mighty tasty - Market Bistro.
