Cheapest Pumkins

  • 8

Around this time of year, certain grocery stores offer pumpkins either for free or for about $1.99. I haven't seen yet this year, but can't afford to miss out. I need about 20 pumpkins for daycare, and another 10 for my Creepy Carnival fundraising home haunt. Please give me the heads up on where to get my lot this year. Bigger is better, but smaller ones will do as long as they can be carved by a group of kids.

  1. I haven't noticed the usual ad either. I'll keep my eyes peeled and try to remember to post here if I see it. Did see a TV report last night about a possible pumpkin shortage this year because of bad weather, so not sure if that's a factor.

I saw a lady at the Marché de l'Ouest trying to sell a pumpkin to a nice family a for $30! I believe he said "Are you out of your mind??!!!" I will not be able to get them at that price.

Are you certain that $30 pumpkin was actually a pumpkin? A lot of people mistake citrouille (pumpkin) with the much more palatable potiron which is a similar looking squash that is often confused with the pumpkin. $30 dollars for a large potiron is not outlandish. They are much more expensive squash.

I can't be sure, even after reading up on the difference between the two. However, they were discussing "pumpkins" and the women never explained that it was anything but a pumpkin.

    2. The cheapest I saw this weekend was at Walmart; small to medium size for $2.99.

      1. The new Provigo flyer has "large" pumpkins for $2 from the 15th to the 18th of October. While supplies last.

Thanks, Daiya. Loblaws flyer has the same special running during the same dates.

        2. Thanks for the Loblaws/Provigo suggestions... I will stock up this weekend.
