Beer bar for a short Boston visit

I will be visiting next weekend and was wondering if anybody could recommend a great bar to go to. I'm interested in quiet bars with a GREAT beer selection. I am already visiting Sam Adams and Harpoon but need a place to go to for a night on the town.

  1. I'm not sure any bar (beer focused or otherwise) is quiet on a weekend night. That said Deep Ellum in Union Sq. Allston can be quiet very early in the evening and The Monk's Cell side of Publick House (Washington Sq. Brookline) can also be quiet early on. Redbones (Davis sq Somerville) is rarely quiet but has a broad selection of beers and an unpretentious vibe.

    Enjoy your visit!

    1. Atwood's in Cambridge might work. Excellent beer selection, good food and very good live music. Which means it's not exactly quiet, but it's not an insane student-oriented place either.

      1. Cambridge Brewing is worth the trip, although it's a brew pub. Great seasonals. If there's no Red Sox game Lower Depths in Kenmore can be mellow. Good little beer list at the Independent in Union Sq, nice and cozy in there.

Won't have to worry about a Sox game...................Go Pats!

        2. Sunset Grill & Tap doesn't get a lot of love here, but they have a MASSIVE beer list, bottles and draughts. My wife and I absolutely love their onion soup, and there are a few standouts on the large menu of above-average pub grub. I would recommend it just for the beer selection, but get there a bit early or be prepared to wait for a little bit.

          1. Blueberry Ale at Boston BeerWorks either by north station or fenway

the Publick House .hands down.yes, i said it. but sit in the monks cell bar ,or other bar area for the absolute best beer experience. a book of beers available in bottles, but at least 20 in cask.proper storage, proper pour.proper glasses..the best

While Publick House has a good selection of draft and bottles, they don't offer anything on cask.
