Apple Butter

I lost my recipe for canned Apple Butter cooked in the crockpot. I did a google search, and can only find recipes that use no sugar or white sugar.

I remember my recipe had brown sugar. It also had you simply quarter the apples and then throw everything - seeds, stems, skins, in the crockpot on low with a bit of apple cider. Next day, run through sieve, add spices (???) and brown sugar (amount?) - cook down, then water process for 10 minutes.

I'll wing it if needed, but thought I would check first to see if someone had similar recipe with spices, proportions, etc.

  1. I remember a recipe like that. It was about 5 pounds of apples, thrown in the crockpot just roughly chopped with 2 tablespoons of cider. Once sieved, about 1 cup of brown sugar (add 1/2 cup first and taste, add more if needed), 1 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon, a tiny pinch salt, 1/2 teaspoon mace or nutmeg (optional).

You do, however, need to remove the skins and seeds with this recipe, but no running through the sieve the next morning.
