Good food near the Four Points Huntsville Airport location?

Sid Post Oct 9, 2009 08:03 PM

I won't have a rental car so, I'm looking for places close to the Four Points hotel. I don't have a problem walking two miles or more if easy public transport isn't available.

Where are the good breakfast and dinner places? From reading the posts I have found, it seems like a lot of recommendations are pretty far away from the general HSV airport area. I would like a good hearty breakfast since my lunch time dining options will be unknown and could be some sort of fast food chain place. I'm wide open to dinner suggestions.

Are any of the good German places near my hotel? I'm also looking for some good authentic BBQ. I also need one Sunday evening recommendation (arrive on the 4:40PM flight).

Thanks in Advance!
Sid

p.s. What's the beer situation like in Alabama? I've heard Alabama has some restrictive beer laws. Is it a wet/dry county situation like other parts of the South? Do people stock up in Tennessee and Mississippi when they travel?

I had the misfortune of eating at the Ruby Tuesday outside of HSV on I565. Service was very slow though the waiter was pretty good. It appeared like the server was was doing so many things that they must have had no shows for work on the floor. This left us with long periods of no service, no drinks, etc. The food was very slow to arrive. The Salmon was way over cooked and dry. The long grain white rice was undercooked and hard, though it was warm.

    I won't be back.

I had the sampler plate at this place and it was delicious. The Turkey had a nice smoke flavor which was very nice though it was a little too salty for my tastes. The Beef and Pork was very good too. The coleslaw was a little weird since I was expecting the typical creamy sweet slaw however, this was a little different being pure slaw with a little something like parsley in it with a sweet vinegar sauce. The coleslaw wasn't my thing but it was done well. The beans and potato salad ere good but, average.

Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and I will be back.

I didn't see this when you first posted. If you're back in the area any time soon, I'd recommend getting a rental car if you can. There's not a whole lot close to the airport and taxis from the airport area are a bit expensive, if I remember correctly.

Which BBQ place did you pick?

It was the Bob Gibson BBQ place on the main drive through Decatur. I caught a ride with another traveler who had a rental car. It was good enough to warrant another trip next time I'm at HSV.
