Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in DC/Baltimore and Suburban Virginia

Vidalia Restaurant

I just took some friends of mine, that I have not seen in a while to one of Washington's highly rated restaurants, Vidalia. However, I was very disappointed. My friends did not want to let me know that they were not having a good time out of politeness to me. The service and the food were awful. The food took a very long time to arrive, and when it did it was cold. I truly would not recommend this restaurant at all.

    1. That's too bad. My last experience at Vidalia, for lunch, was wonderful. Did you notify someone about your displeasure? I'm sure the manager would have made it right for you.

        1. Agree. This place is highly overrated and has no business being mentioned as one of the city's highest rated spots. When we went, the food was uninspired, service was inattentive and we were up-charged on an item the waiter failed to inform us about.

You guys must be dining at Vidlia, which is obviously a different restaurant than Vidalia.

The chef, RJ Cooper, won the 2007 Beard award for best Mid-Atlantic Chef. He's a freakin master with fish, and the 3-courses-for-$20 lunch is the absolute best deal in the neighborhood.

Wrong, it was Vidalia. Master perhaps, but my meal was awful. Will never go there again.

                2. OP, I don't live in the DC area, but I'm there frequently.

Could you please be a bit more specific about this restaurant's flaws? Your review was pretty vague. Thanks in advance.

                    1. Vidalia has always been an I don't get it restaurant for me. So many people rave about it and I have never thought it was that great. Sorry you didn't have a great meal.

                        1. I agree. I haven't tried the fish, but I have had mediocre meals there (food and service) and (especially given the price point) I would not recommend it.
