Good bakeries or chocolate in downtown Columbus?

I'll be in downtown Columbus for a day and would like to know if there is anyplace within a few blocks of Front Street and Broad Streets (near City Hall) where I could pick up some above average baked goods and/or chocolate.

I'm not familiar with Columbus at all, so any suggestions, as long as they are in that area, would be appreciated.

  1. Walk north on Front Street several blocks until you get to the North Market.

    1. Or if you want something less dessert oriented, Eleni Christina in the Short North is good too.

      1. German Village is just south of downtown. Yosick's Artisan Chocolates, Pistacia Vera (candies and cookies) and Bakery Gingham (cupcakes) are all very good.

Bakery Gingham is pretty poor, IMO - but Pistacia Vera is top notch.

Piece of Cake bakery is excellent.

Pure Imagination Chocolatier in the North Market.

        2. I can vouch for Pistacia Vera and am glad to hear of these other recs.
