it would be helpful to have some specifics: cuisine preferences? casual or fancy? Per person budget for food only? That said....

Cafe Boulud has reopened.

Good point -- no cuisine preferences to speak of (just good food) and not too outlandish (keeping the bill around $100 - $125 for two would be great).

(On a side note, we recently went to DBGB and it was tasty.)

At Cafe Boulud, lunch is doable with that budget since they are now offering the following prix fixes: 2 courses for $28; 3 courses for $35. Dinner, however, is well beyond that budget.

Le Magnique, a lovely, authentic French bistro, is very convenient to the Whitney -- at Lexington & 73rd Street. The food is very good and reasonable, including a great $19.95 prix fixe that is served until 7 PM.

Is it in the space where another bistro/wine bar (whose name escapes me) used to be located?

You are so right, RGR! It is Le Magnifique and it is in the same space (and same owners) as the old Buzina Pop Brazilian place. Great, classic bistro menu. FYI: former Bistro du Nord, now Le Paris, on Madison at 93rd, has the identical menu and, I understand, the same owners.
