Any restaurant prepares really good fried calamari- in or very near to Asheville
Doc cheney website mentions nothing about calamari
Hmmm...I may be wrong, but I don't think they've taken it off the menu. Doc Chey's is a small chain, and some of the locations have slightly different menus. (You could always call and ask.)
It's never been on the menu. It's always a "special", but i have only been there a few times when it wasn't offered.
I know it is a chain but Carrabas has good calamari and mussels.
I've had some really really good fried calimari at Marco's Pizzaria in north Asheville. Had some average there, too, but it's more often good than average.
now you are talking - italian places SHOULD be the best
you're right...best I ever had was standing in the street in Little Italy.
I had a nice fried calamari at Chorizo a year or so ago, and Doc Chey has consistently good fried calamari w/ a sweet-ish sauce and fried jalepenos.
I'll second the Doc Chey's rec.--esp. with the dipping sauce.
Love good calamari and try it wherever I go. Don't know that I've found it yet in A-ville (haven't tried Modestos). Let me know what you find
Modesto in the Grove Arcade has excellent fried calamari.
