Bonefish Grill

Jacey Oct 8, 2009 04:16 PM

I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I don't have one where I live, but I was away on business and had heard good things about this place in the past.

Besides needing to turn up the lights a bit, I thought their fish was not impressive. I ordered the chilean sea bass and my dining partner had the salmon. The salmon was so-so (nothing special) but the sea bass was not very tasty. I did like how you can choose which side you want, and the little veggie marinara side that automatically comes with the meal was good. We also ordered dinner salads before our meals and the lettuce was ICE COLD, as well as the plates. Not a good thing! Our service was also not wonderful, but I think we just did not get a good server.

What does others think about the food at Bonefish?

The only time I've been, I had steak, which was decent. I'm not fond of seafood, but ended up there due to the company I was with.

I know a lot of people who swear that their Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is amazing though.

I find it overpriced and trying to be far fancier than the quality of food merits, though I've occasionally had something reasonably decent there. I remember having a trout dish once that was good, but then tried their seared tuna and it was one of the worst pieces of tuna I've ever had, anywhere. Appetizers run toward the very heavy/greasy side, too.

To be honest when faced with a choice of chain seafood restaurants, I'd go to Red Lobster before Bonefish.

Red Lobster over Bonefish? Good grief. You must have one terrible Bonefish in your area!

Bonefish isn't great on entrees, IMHO, but pretty good for apps. Their crab cake app isn't bad, and the Bang Bang Shrimp are good.

May it is just a bad location, I don't know. All I know is there's a Red Lobster across the street in the shopping mall that is at least consistent when it comes to basic stuff and doesn't drown every piece of fish in oversweet, greasy sauces . Plus at the prices Bonefish charges I'd expect much better quality.

I'd go to McDonalds for seafood before I'd go to Red Lobster.

I took my 17 year old son to the Bonefish Grill a few weeks ago as one has opened up in our area. Despite his young age, he is a total foodie and appreciates great food. I had barely slipped into my seat when he proclaimed that this place reminded him of Carrabba's. I replied there is a good reason for that......and explained they are owned by the same outfit. He had the salmon, which was just okay. I can't even remember what I ordered - it was THAT memorable.

We had a very personable server and that was the only thing that redeemed the meal. This particular restaurant will not be on our weekly date rotation list.
