There is the Kiepersol in Bullard which is a super place to have dinner. I go to Jacksonville often and there is an absolute paucity of places to eat in that whole area. I haven't been there since last May, but in this economy, I can't imagine that a super-good place has opened since then. There are good places in Tyler, but I don't know of anything in Rusk that will qualify. There's a place mentioned in Texas Monthly in Whitehouse, but I can't remember the name. Check TM online. There's also a barbeque place in Jacksonville which is to be avoided at all possible costs....Stacy's or something like that. I'm not a bbq lover to begin with, but that was particularily badddddd. The Larissa House in Jacksonville is sort of a tea room-y place, but the food is fine. I understand that they now serve dinner on some nights. If you find a place please post it, as I'm going back there in a couple of weeks.

You were definitely right about the lack of restaurants in Rusk! We had one good meal at the Iron Horse Mercantile on the square in Rusk. Open for dinner which is a plus. Good home cooked food. Can order off the menu or have the all you can eat buffet. The night we were there the buffet had Gumbo, Fried Catfish, Fried Shrimp, Hushpuppies, Potato Salad and Salad Bar. Includes dessert (banana or chocolate pudding). Definitely recommend. Would not recommend the J.R. Rusk hotel. Had breakfast there and it was beyond awful. Tried to go to Dairy Queen and their service was a mess. Said it would take 20 minutes and no one had an idea what was going on.
