Goodfellas Cafe: In Top Ten For New Haven Italian?

I have been reluctant to try Goodfellas. Today SO and companion had lunch there. Her sandwich didn't come with avocado, as advertised. When she mentioned it there was a long span of time before the waiter said they did not have any avocado. There was no apology or compensation. Her companion's salmon was not up to snuff, either. I don't think they will be going back soon.
Does anyone have anything to say about Goodfellas? The board has been pretty quite on them.

I have never been, but wanted to go when it opened just because Goodfellas is one of my all-time favorite movies. It would be trippy to meet Henry Hill, but he's probably never there. And the real HH doesn't look a thing like Ray Liotta (which is part of the draw for me). ;) It's probably best left as a fantasy.
The last time we went to Goodfellas, the waiter spilled an entire glass of water on my husband's chair. Luckily he was in the restroom at the time. We then had to ask the waiter to replace the chair. As for the food, nothing special.
To be honest I went 3 years or so ago on the night of the Sopranos finale. Fitting restaurant for the event. Great experience from the first step in the door. Scored a great 2001 Bueller Cab for $30. Food was good, I remember the entree was a Parpadelle pasta with mushrooms and veal, olives. It was very good. BUT...and big BUT! If Gerry is cooking then you're in great hands. If someone else then you get something else which may have been the case when you went. I don't know that for sure, but friends of mine that go more often than I have said the same thing. Some other Italian restaurants that score high for me are Portofino's, Antonio's and Cafe Bravo.
