I have family coming in this weekend on Sunday and I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place for dinner in Ocean or Monmouth County? They are from Louisiana and looking for good seafood, preferably lobster at a reasonable price. This is their first time visiting Jersey and I really want to impress them. Thanks in advance for the help.

I am headed to Mud City Crabhouse this weekend (Manahawkin). I have never been but have heard great things about their fresh seafood. I am planning on ordering a bucket of steamers and some garlic crabs. Check out the website at www.mudcitycrabhouse.com. My favorite spot at this point is Red's Lobster Pot/Dock in Point Pleasant. They have an outside "clam bar" which you can get everything from clams on the half shell to roasted clams (I don't know what seasoning they use, but YUM) to lobster. Inside, they have more special items, but they can only seat up to 5 at a table. If you ask them to seat more, they have a Seinfeld-esque "no soup for you" attitude that you will either love or hate. I love it because the food is so darned good. Good luck and please report back.

        Agree! Shipwreck is amazing!

Red's is a straight up seafood spot. Fun, not too expensive - BYO.

Shipwreck is a very good restaurant, but kind of expensive. For example, they get their lobster from Point Lobster Company. Although Point's prices have dropped quite a bit this fall, Shipwreck's lobster dinner prices ("Market Price" on the menu) have not.

If your family is still here on Sunday, the $35 Lazy Lobster dinner at Brandl is a great deal.

Finally, I throw out the fact that lobster is $4-$5 a pound at Point Lobster. You could do quite a feast at home!

If you go with MGZ's idea about a feast at home, Barefoot Contessa has a great Kitchen Clambake recipe that includes all the seafood plus kielbasa and it makes the most amazing broth...

Love Barefoot Contessa's kitchen clambake! Need good quality bread for that broth!

If you're going to dine at home, a great deal is Lusty Lobster's (Highlands) lobster special that they cook for you (done to perfection every time).

            2 1-1/2 lb. lobsters, steamed
            1 1b. (or a dozen) shrimp cocktail, w/sauce
            2 clams casino
            homemade coleslaw
(something else too? my memory fails me)

all for $30. You must call and order by noon.

I like Rays in Little Silver and Nevesink Fishery in Atlantic Highlands for the actual seafood. They are however sort of little hole-in-the- wall storefront BYO places so I'm not sure they have that "local color" tourist cachet...

If by any chance you're taking them to Atlantic City, I would recommend the Oyster Creek Inn in Leeds Point for the ambiance - if the weather's nice, sit outside in Bill's Crab Room overlooking Barnegat Bay with a view of the A.C. skyline. It's no frills seafood - plastic cafeteria trays on picnic tables piled with blue claws and lobster, with a few ears of corn thrown in for good measure...

How about the Inlet Cafe in Highlands? They have lots of fresh seafood and the friendly servers will provide that Jersey welcome. They plop reasonable good cole slaw on the table to munch on while you wait for your food. On the water with views of Sandy Hook.

I just had dinner at The New Yolanda's River House in Ocean Gate, NJ. It was great! The service was outstanding, the dinners were wonderful and everyone must try the keylime pie. It's like none I've every had.
