Antinori-Matte Albis Maipo Valley (cabernet)
2004
$62
(Thought it was no different than $10 Cab)

vs.

Vignerons de Caractère Vacqueyras Les Hauts du Castellas (
(GSM) $18
Thought the GSM was much better.
Jammy. Fruity. Acid. Low tannin. Pepper aftertaste?

The Southern Rhone is a great source for bargain wine. Although I haven't heard of much mourvedre being planted in either Vacqueyras or Gigondas.

According to a Swedish wine blog, Les Hauts du Castellas 2006 is 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. http://godavinare.blogspot.com/2009/0...

          Jo men visst!

Who knows why but if you google "les hauts du castellas" mourvèdre, you get many pages of Swedish results. I just cited one of the first that came up, since the wine producer's website provides no specifics.

Here's an English-language Rhône site that puts the GSM ratio at 75:15:10 for the 2007. http://www.terrisson-wines.com/m_cata...
