Nightcap/dessert near Kendall Square Cinema

doodlebugg Oct 6, 2009 04:56 PM

Looking for a glass of wine and something sweet after a planned Saturday night flick. Not really familiar with the Kendall Square area- would be willing to drive somewhere else in Cambridge after the movie- just looking for a nice atomosphere where we can actually hear each other talk.

maybe Hungry Mother? I loved it for dinner, don't know the after-dinner scene. B-Side Lounge is a bit noisy but also should be ok and a late night scene. Don't know Friendly Toast's hours, but that could be fun too.

B-side is closed. Unless the replacement is already open?

I would recommend The Blue Room, right in One Kendall Square across from the cinema. Not sure how late they are open.

The desserts may not be up to par with the rest of their menu, but the bar at Craigie is great.

Would absolutely recommend Hungry Mother. They regularly hit it out of the park in terms of dessert--especially the rotating selection of cakes.

In addition to a good wine (and dessert wine) selection, they have a small number of house post-dinner cocktails on their menu as well.

I'll third Hungry Mother, echoing everything Canadian Tuxedo said. Plus I think the atmosphere would be quite conducive to conversation.

I had a Sazerac and a slice of coconut cake at the bar there post-movie, and it was an extremely pleasant time.

Try their "Escondido" (tequila infused for a few weeks with Pineapple, Coconut & Vanilla Bean). My favorite cocktail in Boston. Tastes like butterscotch!

Love their pure raw ginger martinis w/no sweetner added.

I'd also go with The Blue Room. Good wine selection and always great deserts. Comfortable bar as well.
