Heading to Charlottesville this weekend. Any can't miss places for breakfast or brunch? locally grown etc. would be wonderful but really yummy food is more important. Keep in mind that it's homecoming weekend so it's probably going to be crowded wherever we go.
thanks.

I really like Maya for brunch.

I visited friends in C'ville recently and we had brunch at Bluegrass Grill. I thought it was fabulous! I got whole grain pancakes (yummy yummy) that came with real maple syrup and real butter. The OJ was fresh squeezed and the coffee was good as well. Others at the table got french toast and breakfast burritos and egg dishes, everyone was happy with their food. I don't have anything to compare it to so I have no idea if it's the "best" place.

If you really want to do it right, go to the Boar's Head Inn for a wonderfully upscale brunch buffet that includes breakfast and lunch items (around $25-30/person). Top notch! For the more everyday, Bluegrass Grill is OK. Can be hit or miss, and sometimes the wait for a table can be oppressive! Good vibe there though. Cafe Cubano is more of a coffee shop, but has a nice breakfast too. Taven is an old staple, greasy spoon/dineresque, but in a good way! Don't forget to stop by Spudnut on Avon for the best doughnuts in town.

You may want to post this on the South board as it's the board for the Charlottesville area.

I'll also be there this weekend, amaebi. Lo these many years ago, I used to go to the Tavern (Emmet and Barracks Rd) for a big breakfast. Nothing fancy, but a good, fast, big breakfast. There are always lines, and I suspect this weekend will be more crowded than most. We'll check it out, see if it's changed...
