ISO shredded green papaya
I'm looking for green papaya that's already shredded. I've seen green papaya in Asian groceries near me but I'm afraid of peeling them. I kinda like the use of my limbs so I'm afraid of using a knife to get the hard rind off the papaya. Isn't the inside somewhat slippery too?

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'm a little bit far from Lowell but I'll check out Battambang if I find myself in the area. I was wondering how slippery green papaya is; my mother had several close scrapes with her knife while trying to peel green papaya before. I have a peeler I can use so that should be a lot safer even if the fruit were to slip.

Chop the papaya in half, and spoon out the seeds. Then use a potato peeler to take off the skin and from there you can basically just grate the papaya with a cheese grater or food processor. Better yet, buy a zig-zag peeler from anywhere.
I've done both for making papaya salads and they work perfectly.

The special gizmo would be the Kom Kom Miracle Knife..

I have one, but I usually end up doing it on my mandoline...
