Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

Lunch - Downtown San Jose

I generally think of downtown San Jose as a culinary wasteland. Nevertheless, am going to be there for lunch later this week and hoping for any recommendation of chow-worthy food. Not looking for fast food or quick and dirty, but worthy of a good sit down lunch. Any recs?

  1. I'd agree in general, downtown San Jose is not a culinary mecca. The best you might do is Arcadia, the Michael Mina outpost in the Marriott Hotel, which serves some of his classics, including the lobster pot pie, as well as some decent, if not memorable steaks. The restaurant unfortunately looks like a typical hotel lobby restaurant, however. Otherwise, I would wander into Los Gatos or Saratoga for far better dining options.

      Also, a friend of mine recently went to E&O Trading Co. for dinner & raved about it. She especially liked the sauce accompaniments. Don't know what she had exactly but I'll guess she chose from seafood, chicken & veggie as she doesn't eat beef.

      Personally, I'd go with one of the above...

      Lastly, there are two Indian restaurants, Silk Road Bistro & Tandoori Oven, both of which have mixed reviews on yelp. I know the Palo Alto location for the latter isn't thought of highly but don't know when compared to other mediocre choices :)

      1. Go to La Pastaia in the DeAnza Hotel or Paolo's on San Carlos Street. I've always had excellent meals there and the service is great at both. Although I have to say I haven't been at Paolo's for a while.

        1. I suggest Omogari on Fourth and Jackson. It's a quaint little Korean restaurant with some charm. I would recommend the Kim Chi Stone Pot (Number 34 I believe).

          1. I usually eat at Sonoma Chicken Coop opposite San Pedro's Square. Decent food, great prices. I like 19 Market for dinner and think it is a rather classy restaurant, but some how overlooked.
