Arg - Tip Top closed on Mon. - where now in San Antonio?

Tippy Oct 5, 2009 05:29 PM

Hello!

I will be in San Antonio for one day later this month (Monday, unfortunately,) and wanted to find the best Chicken Fried Steak in town. I was all set to try Tip Top Cafe, but now I see that they are closed on Monday. Perfect. Where else has great CFS in San Antonio?

I can't speak to quality (I'm not big on fried foods) ... but Lulu's cafe makes a CFS that'll drape off all sides of the plate. www.lulusbakeryandcafe.com Let me know how it compares on your scale of good CFS.

Thanks so much! I just saw this place on Man V. Food and it did look yummy. I'll be visiting family in Corpus for several days, so we may end up getting CFS there (great little diner called Price's Chef that has been around since 1940,) and trying Boudro's in San Antonio. Too much food, too little time! I'll let you know what we decide.

Good Time Charlies on Broadway...N. of Downtown- fun after work stop

Bud Jones on Commercial and Military (southside) - family rest.

Check the SA Current's website. The Current has a "best o series" of which their readers rate everything in the San Antonio and Southcentral Texas area.

SAguy, got any recommendations (of the ones you know) which might be the best?

Good suggestion re: the SA Current website ... I'd forgotten they'd put that info on the site. But I've also see them make some bad "best of" choices ... makes me think the votes were loaded ... so I'd often prefer Chowhound recommendations.
