finally tried it.

interesting burger.

about 10 oz or so of ground hamburger, onions, monterey jack cheese, garlic confit, and here's the kicker a fruit chutney. it tasted a little apricot-y to me, but with the juices of the hamburger it's sort of veered into a kind of a1 type steak sauce with a fruity hint too it.

also, came with a stack of thin garlic and parsley flecked fries.

and under 7 bucks when all is said and done. not too shabby for a burger at a fine dining establish-ment.

Why call it wimpy?? They call it Wimpy (capital W) in honor (presumably) of Wimpy the cartoon character with the insatiable appetite for burgers, from the Popeye the Sailor Man comics...

With due respect to the other learned correspondents, "Wimpy Burger" seems here to be, based on the peculiar condiments, a reference to the restaurant of the same name, which was the first fast-food burger chain in the UK. Founded in the 50's, (and named after the Popeye character, who was NOT, apparently same same guy as their symbol/mascot) they figured large in the "Swingin' London" of the 60's. Large parts of their operation were repackaged, de-Britished, and generic-fied as Burger Kings in the late 1980's (see URL below)

I vote for the Popeye character with no reference intended to the UK chain. As I recall, Wimpy burgers (the UK variety) were anemic, and generally godawful, not gussied up like the ones that started this thread.

That or the Gorikee folks have a very bizarre sense of humor.

It was the sweet and salty sauce combo on the described Gorikee burger which made me think Brit.
