Dinner near 56th & 7th

avass Oct 5, 2009 07:48 AM

Flying in for quick NYC trip and looking for dinner walking distance to hotel. Nothing fancy, just really delicious and relatively fast (not take-out but want to be in and out in an hour). Top eats are middle eastern, tapas, greek, turkish, sushi, chinese.

Was thinking of Azuri cafe but haven't been there in 10 years so not sure if it's still good.

One of my favorite Turkish places is Akdeniz, which has a super pre-theater menu, is on 46th between 5th and 6th Aves. To me that's walking distance, not sure about you.

Molyvos - 871 Seventh, should be right across the street. I've only been for lunch. My recollection was there was a good prix fixe deal. Check the menu for the a la carte prices.

There are a bunch of sushi restaurants on West 56th between 5th and 6th. Sushiya offers decent sushi at a reasonable price.

I also like Ise, also on 56th but closer to 6th. Only limited sushi selection. Go there for tasty cooked Japanese dishes.

Molyvos is good, and if you eat in the bar area you can be in and out within an hour. But check the website before you go, it's pretty expensive.

They've got a pre-theater prix fixe which is a good price.

For what it's worth, Azuri is still on his game -- I worked down the block this summer and was there about once a week. If you do end up going, don't forget that he closes early on Friday and all day Saturday for Shabbat.

I had a very nice dinner recently at Osteria del Circo on 55th between 6th and 7th. The have a $38 prix fixe menu as well.

Right at 56th and Broadway is Basso 56, one of my favorite Italian spots in the city.
