cool place for brunch in Kitsilano?

Sorry I am adding another post but I just moved to Vancouver and I am in need of recommendations...

Thus far I've been to Cosmic Sophie's which I found OK but I am looking for something that has good food and is-more trendy.

Thanks!

  1. Ay, no me digas Sophie's, por favor. Que bruto.

But there is a reason for the lineup -- brunchy places are thin on the ground on the west side, especially trendy ones. Here are a few possibilities

Gramercy Grill Arbutus and 11th – surprisingly inexpensive considering upscaleness of resto, fresh banana bread gratis, great bennies (30 for 2 with coffee) (604) 730-5666 weekends only

Mon Bella Bistoria tel 604 569 2741 • fax 604 569 2742 • 1809 West 1st Avenue, Vancouver BC. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday from 4pm • Brunch on the Weekends from 10:30 to 3 (reservations okay)
tried on July 5 – nice bennies, spuds a bit weird, needs seasoning, $32 for 2

Abigail's Party (1685 Yew Street, 604-739-4677) Weekend brunch is apparently a keeper but I haven't tried it yet. Weekends only from 9 to 2

    Anyone else?

    1. Check out Abigail's Party and Tomato Fresh Food Cafe. They're pretty good!!

Thanks guys, now I have brunch places to check out for the next two or three weekends!

      2. A little more expensive and not, "classic brunch" (ie: Benny's), but I've had brunch at DB Bistro twice and both have been superb.

        1. Is Epic still around? I know the dinner venue upstairs closed but is the street-level cafe still open? They had a pretty good Italian-style breakfast.

This is technically just outside Kits but...
Brunch a la Galerie - organic-focused brunch in the Autumn Brook Gallery with tasty but slightly small portions.

+1 for Autumn Brook (they also take resos which is nice). Parking is not great nearby but they do have an unmarked lot in the back, or you can park in the also unmarked lot across the street. And a hint: if you order a benny be sure to ask for the muffin toasted...

Just tried Autumn Brook this morning. What a pleasant surprise! Being set in a gallery the setting is simple and elegeant. The food was very good and excellent deal at $12-13 a dish for the quality and sophistication. I had a French Toast brioche with a berry compote and passion fruit puree. The passion fruit was used sparingly and subtle enough to add a beautiful aromatic fragrance without overwhelming the dish. My partner thought his benny to have the most perfectly cooked egg of his experience in Vancouver. Our defining test for a good brunch place is the coffee and their nice strong Americano style cup of joe definitely hit the mark. We will be back and will definitely keep the place in mind for special events in the future.

          2. My friends really like Cafe Zen on Yew and I think it's okay
but Fish right beside is so much better!
As long as you like seafood
last time I had the smoked salmon omelette and my buddy had the shrimp benedict and they were superb..also breakfast caesars with tWO asparagus spears!!

Sad to tell you that Fish on Yew is now closed. They have sold the business. From the sign on the door though their original place on 41st is still open.

Yes the Cafe is still Open I walk by daily-business isn't perhaps what it once was but the regulars are still there especially on weekends

Wow, I'm stunned. I stopped at 'Fish' on my way home because I had to see it for myself. I just ate here last week and now they're becoming a pizza place. *sigh*

              2. I like Milestones on 4th...chain I know but prime rib hash is such a guilty indulgence.....yum

                1. Jethro's Fine Grub (18th & Dunbar); more west side than kits, but worth the additional 8 blocks. Diesel strength coffee, righteous omelets, clean room, and super friendly.

                  1. On a nice warm day, Jericho Sailing Centre's Galley Patio & Grill is a MUST :-)

I've only had the burgs there, LR -- tell us more about the brunch options, please.

The bbq pork sandwich, calamari, nachos and fish tacos were all pretty good. I was only there twice last year.

Check: current menu seems about the same:

                    2. What about Cafe Medina in Downtown? yum yum yum waffles

Medina is a good rec for brunch but it is not in Kits, which is probably why no one mentioned it since the OP requested that area...

                      2. Abigail's Party is a great place for brunch. So are: Refuel, and for a pub-like experience but good breakfast try the Sunset Grill...!
