SEA trip report

Last minute glitch kept us from staying on a boat at Fishermen's Terminal over the weekend, so we stayed downtown. Thanks to all for all the Ballard recs.

Sat. lunch at Szechuan Noodle Bowl in ID -- wontons and dumplings in spicy sauce, pig's ears, then tendon spicy noodles. Lovely. Lively.

Sat. dinner cooked at a friend's home -- 10# troll caught King fillet from Central Mkt., grilled, preceded by Totten Inlet smalls on the half-shell. Sides of all kinds, too much wine.

Sunday was Ballard Street Market grub (what's up with the Dante Dogs w/ cream cheese?), followed by delightful dinner at Cantinetta in Wallingford. Not everything was perfect, but pretty darn close. An antipasto with figs, caramelized onions, and gorgonzola rocked my chimes, as did an Amarone to finish us off. One pasta dish w/ broc. rabe was way salty. To their credit, we were a table of 8, late.

Monday lunch sucked on Bainbridge Isl. -- name shall remain nameless.

Monday dinner at Bastille in Ballard. Completely solid, even delicious, great service, greater wine list if you're paying attention. It can get expensive, though, if you whole hog it, which we gladly did.

i'd still rather live in Montana than Seattle, but it's a wonderful place to visit College Boy,

I imagine Dante is following demand, though I hope to be wrong (It's all about the buttah, baby...). "Pretty darn close" is exactly where Cantinetta belongs, at this young point, and I am delighted to hear your report of their progress. Bainbridge: say no more...

Cream Cheese on hotdogs is a regional specialty (abnormality?) Most of the hotdog carts in the city do this, I HAVE NO IDEA WHY! I will tell you people gobble them up. I tried it once and did not like it, but many people do...

Exactly- it is Seattle's version of a favorite hot dog... Most people order hot dog and cream cheese with other toppings as well. My favorite combo is sausage/or spicy veggie dog with cream cheese, BBQ sauce, and grilled onions- with cheap bright yellow mustard. Most people I know , who use the carts for late night dining, at least order dog, cream cheese, and mustard and/or BBQ sauce together.

My sons, no slouches in the food dept., each ate 2 loaded w/ cream cheese and "chef's" choice fixings and pronounced them quite tasty, I had just never before heard of such a thing,

One thing I forgot to add about Cantinetta was that the service was delightfully professional.

Thanks for the report. I live in the neighborhood but I haven't been back to Cantinetta since it first opened. I liked it then, I really need to go back.
