pumpkin pie

Hey,

It is getting to be that time of the year again... I was just wondering where the baking challenged among us gets their pumpkin pie fix from; by the slice preferably but I could handle a whole pie if I must.

Cheers.

I had the good fortune to be able to mooch a few forkfuls of my friend's slice of pumpkin pie at Calabria Bakery on Midland Ave in Scarborough (North of Lawrence). It was heavenly. The texture was creamy and light, the colour a darkish golden brown. The spicing was not subtle and wimpy; to me it tasted perfectly balanced. The crust was light and flaky. I've been thinking about that pie since I tasted it yesterday. Had I not been so full already from my veal sandwich and my own dessert, I would have bought myself a slice. Now I wish I'd bought a whole pie (I think both options are available). They also had pumpkin tarts, which I didn't try but are probably made from the same filling. Not sure if they're open Sundays, though, so I hope they still have it available on Tuesday.

Sorry I missed you! I was there for a take out pizza at noon rush.

We didn't get there until 5:00 pm. One of these days I'll get to try their pizza, but for now I only seem to get there after the oven's been turned off.

On a side note, I bought a huge bag of really nice, soft kaisers for $1.50. They were technically "day olds," but the lady at the counter advised me which ones were still from that day.
