Kirkland toaster waffles

Totally non-gourmet category, admittedly, but such a handy warm thing for breakfast. OK, Costco just discontinued Eggos, substituting their own brand. Unsatisfactory, IMAO. Relatively flavorless and not really toaster-friendly. They get darker than desired on the outside while being undercooked inside, sort of a gummy texture.

Did someone say DIY? For the small amount I consume the rigamarole involved (and I used to make waffle batter on Sundays as a youngster--fold in the beaten eggwhites, etc) is just too much.

Lookin' for a big-box Eggos connection.

    1. Costco discontinued egoos? what do you mean? they dont make eggos. anyways if you meran they only sell their own brand of waffles now, thats not a good business decision.

You can discontinue selling something even if you don't make it.
It's very much in line with a lot of the things Costco does. Considering how successful they are, why do you think it's a bad business decision?

            1. re: Fibber McGee

yeah i know they can discontinue selling it, i just thought opo was saying they discontinued making it.
anyway, i think its bad because most people like name brand items. also if kirkland is all theyre selling people might not feel like theyre getting a ''sale item'' or a good buy if that makes sense.

on the other hand maybe that was a great business move, because now all the profits go to costco rather than to eggos./

Geez, I thought everybody knew that Eggos were made by Kellogg. Costco doesn't manufacture anything but profit. They have merchandise made, and packaged with their label. A few years back they had their own brand of tires, made by Goodrich. Good tires, but apparently it wasn't worth the effort of maintaining that line of merchandise. My complaint is that the substitute waffle isn't as good. Some Kirkland products are excellent (their dog food has given my dog her best coat ever) and some less so.

Where did i say that eggo is made by costcos.?

                      1. re: RCTRIPLEFRESH5

Where did I say that you said they did? I was implying that it wasn't necessary to say that they didn't.

their dog food has been recalled many times. if its working for your dog thats great just be warned. i feed my dog canidae its the ebst food money can buy. its pretty expensive though at 48 dollars for a 35 pound bag!

                            1. re: RCTRIPLEFRESH5

I'd question your "many times" contention. They were part of the melamine recall that included a large number of brands. We've been buying Kirkland dog food for a long time (we mix it with prescription food for one of our dogs) and don't recall "many" recalls.

Also, from what I can find online, both Canidae and Kirkland are manufactured by Diamond.

canidae and kirkland are manufactured by the same people??? wow that disappoints me.

well anyway, canidae has NEVER been recalled, so apparently the standards are higher./

No, Kirkland dry dog food was never recalled. Some of the canned food was. Kirkland's Chicken &Rice kibble has a higher nutritional rating than many of the very expensive kibbles, according to testing info that was in wide circulation at the time of the melamine contamination. I agree that it is excellent quality and have fed it for over 15 years.

I think most Kirkland label foods are good quality although I haven't had the waffles.

                              • I started buying the 3 can pack of Batter Blaster when Costco started carrying it a couple of years ago. The resulting "pancake" is more of a waffle texture(rather than pancake texture) in that the exterior is crispy and it has the right flavor.

Takes up less space, is refrigerated, is organic and I can make any portion size I want. No waste of batter-cans expire in about 6 months. 3 cans ~$10

how many pancakes, in your experience, does each can make, i thought abt getting the, but.....

                                        About 30. 5 or 6 inch diameter.

I like that I can just make myself one or two and nothing gets old/stale/freezer burned.

very cool, im definitely going to try them, thanks for the thorough rec

                                        • Ah, that's too bad. Many of the Kirkland products are pretty good. I buy the laundry detergent all the time, for example. But they have a miss now and then. Sometimes they decide to carry name brands as well as house brands (to use same example, they still carry Tide detergent). I would make sure they know you've found the waffles inferior; I think they take that kind of feedback seriously.

Meantime, you'll have to check the other warehouses, maybe Sam's or BJ's carries Eggo. Or maybe a good loss leader sale now and then at a regular supermarket or Target or Wal-Mart.

it seems like egoo is having some big manufacturing problems.
