I am heading across Hiway 2 to hit I-5 up to Bellingham next week. I should hit Monroe/Marysville/Mt. Vernon about lunch time. Nothing fancy is needed, but does anyone have any good suggestions for Thai/Japanese/Chinese/Vietnamese that is not far off the beaten track? Thanks.

In downtown Mount Vernon there's a little hole in the wall on Gates Street called Rachawadee Cafe (next door to the Porterhouse). You get to sit at a counter and watch young Thai women cook your lunch up fresh. The food is straightforward, but always good. I recommend anything with noodles, and if you ask for spicy it WILL be spicy!

I've been to Sakura in Burlington once. I think you can do better at Best Teriyaki on Riverside in Mount Vernon. No ambience, but better food for less money, and without all the shouting.

I would strongly recommend Sakura in Burlington. Everything we have had there is delicious.
