Dinner tonight near Penn Station . . . Halp!

Hey everyone,

So my mom is coming into NYC for the day, and wants to eat within walking distance (ten blocks? maybe one or two more?) of Penn Station.

We're not trying to break any bank, but we would like to have a nice meal with wine and the whole deal. What should I do??

  1. Artisanal might work - decent French food, nice wines by the glass, not too expensive.

    1. There's a pile of threads on this topic if you search "Penn Station" on the Manhattan board and sort by relevance:

There's not a whole ton of options in that neighborhood, but a little walking and you should be fine. There's good chinese to be had at Grand Sichuan on 24th & 9th and at Sichuan Gourmet on 39th btw 5th & 6th, excellent pizza at Co. (also 24th & 9th), less fancy but equally good sit-down pizza at Lazzara's on 38th btw 7th & 8th, and a Balkan place I've been meaning to try called Djerdan on the same block as Lazzara's. None of these except Co. are real upscale places, but neither are they dives, and the food's good.

      1. right out side on 34th st nick & steph steak house is good their is a houlahans in penn station and you also have track bar on LIRR level penn station good food just sit in the back area
