Last month I was the lucky recipient of a box of assorted cookies and bars from a local delivery service, which included "caramel pretzel chocolate chunk cookies." They were a big hit , I'm a big baker and now I want to try to recreate them. They seemed to be your basic chocolate chip / chocolate chunk cookie dough with the addition of crushed pretzels and some soft caramelly pieces. Crushed pretzels are pretty self-explanatory, but I'm at a loss as to how to get the caramel bits. I've searched around online but all I get are recipes for chocolate covered pretzels. Any ideas? Thanks.

easy solution...unwrap some individual/bite-sized caramels (Kraft, Eagle, or Hershey) toss in some of the flour, and chop into bits. re-toss the chopped pieces in a bit of the flour before folding them into the batter to ensure even distribution.

ETA: a quick Google search returned several mentions of "Kraft Premium Caramel Bits" which you can apparently find at Super Target and some supermarkets...or you can buy them online.

Aha - chopped up Kraft caramels. Much simpler that the path my brain was on of how to make caramel and then somehow swirl it through the cookies . . .

you could try chopping and mixing in some caramels.

or, maybe not quite the same idea, but you could also break up some toffee bars or heath bars, and mixing those in...

Interesting - are these a non-US product? And I will definitely report back. I was hoping to conduct the experiment tonight but now it's looking like I won't have time. Stupid job.

let me know how that turned out. i have a batch of leftover home-made caramels (i obviously cannot finish myself) - maybe i can work these in?

mine are kinda hard caramel but are disintegrating in our humid air as we speak.. might be too chewy/sticky than the commercial candies we're looking at here?
