Good burger in Murray Hill?

My favorite burger in MH is hands down Mollys. I have had 3 straight dissapointing experiences at Waterfront Ale house. Any other recos for a good burger in MH?

  1. You may want to try Rare. Personally, I don't like it as I find their cooking very inconsistent. And their fries aren't that good. But if they get the burger right, it's one of the better ones out there in Murray Hill.

      Thanks MN, I have had Rare a few times. Just like your take, I have found them to be drastically inconsistent. Looking for something new.

        I think the burger at Blue Smoke is first-rate. Same Pat LaFrieda meat as at Shake Shack, but a thicker burger (though not as huge as Molly's).

        Btw, Molly's is in Gramercy, not Murray Hill.

          I enthusiastically second the Blue Smoke recommendation.

          Is anything as huge as Molly's?
          (maybe the Luger burger?)

          Have you tried the burger in the Pub Room at Keens? It is pretty thick and juicy.

      2. I'm an avowed lover of Waterfront Ale House. Sad to hear you had three straight disappointing burgers. I haven't had one in a while and go there a few times per month

        I think Blue Smoke is the best in the area and maybe in the whole city. My other favorite in the area is, believe it or not, Primehouse (only on the bar menu).. which is strange considering I dont think the steak is anything special. But the burger is big, well cooked and well seasoned. I only get the regular cheeseburger and i think its around $11 or $12 27th street btwn Park and Lex is a fine burger block.

        I dislike Rare and think its overpriced and don't get me started on the Resto burger either...

          The classic burger at Primehouse is $16, served with lettuce, red onion, tomato, and your choice of cheese. I tried it last night -- medium rare with American cheese. The meat was very juicy and basically disintegrated the bun. I found the size a little unwieldy.

          The meat was tasty; however my burger was cooked just a bit past medium rare. The meat itself had lots of good flavor. Unfortunately, it felt like the seasoning was really uneven -- some bites had NO salt at all, other bites had salt bombs. With more even seasoning, this would have been an excellent burger. I'm willing to give them another try, though. I think I prefer Blue Smoke just a bit overall for a thick burger in this neighborhood but Primehouse's bar area is much easier to get into.

        2. So last night at 9PM, there were 2 of us.....hour wait at Blue Smoke, hour wait at Houstons, ended up at Mollys. Sat down right away, burgers were excellent, fries and onion rings were a little under cooked. Guinness was great.
          Blue Smoke is up next if we can ever get a table or spot at the bar.

            The wait at Blue Smoke for a table is always a killer but I've had good luck snagging bar seats and thats where I sit 90% of the time.

                I live very close so just stop by when I feel like going. Never really plan ahead to go there.

          2. The Crooked Knife on 33rd or 32nd bet Park and Mad has a nice burger.
