Hi All,

My boyfriend's birthday is in a few weeks and I'm looking for a good celebration location that may also have a special because its his birthday (hoping to stretch the food dollar!). My preference is Royal Oak/Birmingham/Troy or downtown - but am interested in all responses.

Thanks!

Real Seafood is a common choice in downtown Ann Arbor--two entrees for the price of one. Not spectacular, but they go through a lot of fish and cook it decently.

Thanks Jim. I actually found their website and it seems to be a consistent policy at all of the affiliated restaurants - Gratzi and the Chop House.

I'm still curious about whether there are any restaurants closer to the metro Detroit area. Anyone?!?

I think there are two ways to handle this:
1. Choose your restaurant. Contact the General Manager in person (not by phone--email) and explain your wishes to him/her. Be prepared for any "extra" costs. But really, there should be none. I think any good restaurant in the metro area will work with you to make the birthday memorable.
Or;
2. Provide a cake, celebratory decorations and other birthday items to your selected restaurant earlier in the day of his celebration and let that restaurant stage the event.

Either way, I'm confident you'll find a staff that will work with you.

Good on you for wanting to do more than just a dinner out!

Thanks RedTop! Actually, I was looking for restaurants that give a discount because a member of the party has a birthday. At the Ann Arbor restaurants mentioned by Jim, they discount the food bill 50% for a party of two if one of the party has a birthday on that day.

FWIW, Gratzi has more of a special-occasion feel than Real Seafood. Last time I was there (on a friend's birthday--now that I think of it, we went for the discount), they did a great job.

Check with Sweet Lorraine's -- they used to send you a card on your birthday witha discount; might still be in play. In any case I recently received a 2/1 offer for both lunch and dinner, not related to birthday --give them a call. Detroit/Southfield
