while i heart neptune in a major way, the bright lighting, white tile and noise pinging off all the hard surfaces don't scream romance to me.

I think it depends on what romantic feels like to you. I've found sitting at the bar at Neptune on a rainy night very romantic in a 'homey feel' type of way. If you're looking for candles and dim lighting, its not romantic at all. I also may feel this way because it was one of the first places I went to when I moved to Boston (and in the brief time before it blew up into such a major dining destination)

          2. While B&G and Neptune are the first places that come to mind, the atmosphere isn't really what I would think of as romantic. I do like the atmosphere of the bar at Kingfish Hall though. Not everyone, however, I'm sure, will agree.

I'd say that with the right person any place can be romantic. Specific to B&G they have some really cozy corner tables...but I don't know if you can request particular tables when making a reservation there.

I agree -- even the oyster bar at East Coast Grill can be sexy and that place is all hustle and bustle.

On the opposit scale, isn't there a very tiny oyster bar downstairs at the Marliave? I think it was part of the space where the Littlest Bar used to be.

                  1. re: Northender

It's a lovely little bar and feels very private. But last time I was there (late sumemr) it wasn't open. I don't know what the regular hours are.

            2. I like Harvest. It's quiet, mature, and has nice service.

              1. Even though Eastern Standard is a large, lively place, it's got a white-table-cloth romantic vibe.

Go to Legal Seafood and get the '646' oyster special. There are five types of oysters and they're only a dollar each.

I just discovered this deal last week when I was at a conference at the Seaport World Trade Center. Slipped out every afternoon to hit LTK and the $1 oysters, man did that improve the conference. But it's only Mon-Thu, 3-6 pm, so it might not be terribly romantic unless one is interested in a little (ahem) afternoon delight.

not available at all locations either.

back bay sel de la terre also runs an oyster special, but not sure when. the upstairs is much nicer than the down.

                      1. re: hotoynoodle

At which locations is it not available? I was assured by a few LTK staff that it was chain-wide, including (obviously) Legal Test Kitchen. Just curious.

                        1. re: erwocky

i asked about it at the park sq. location. they do not offer the oyster special or the bar happy hour menu that elsewhere runs from either 3-6 or 4-6. (can't remember.)

                2. Lineage in Coolidge Corner has Island Creek Oysters from Duxbury. mmmm
