Need Ideas for Oakland/Berkeley Spots with Infant

The Dive Sep 30, 2009 12:05 AM

I'm trying to come up with ideas for dinner spots for bringing an infant in a stroller -- I'm looking for loud or outdoor spots with room for strollers next to tables. So far, Sea Salt, Pacific Brewing Co., Barclays, Kensington Circus and Angeline's (during non-peak times -- space, not sound issues) have worked great. Any other ideas?

Meridian International Sports Cafe. Your baby could scream its loudest and not be heard. Also, the place often seems to be fairly empty. Lots of space for a stroller. Good food.

Sometimes a change of pace is good, congratulations on the new diner.

One of our favorites with our first was Jupiter in Berkeley. Super loud inside, great "white noise". Outside is fabulous. Lanesplitters in Oakland is family friendly and usually fine for a stroller. Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe is great for infant and beyond. Little Shin Shin except it seems like they put us in the back whenever we have the kids. Also, not so loud. Went to Meal Ticket once and enhoyed that for the outdoor space.

Picante always has babies in strollers either inside or outside on the patio.

T-Rex often has an "underage (i.e., not sitting at the bar) sound level" that can shock the conscience.

The food is nothing special, but if you're looking for "adult beverages," Ben & Nick's is a bar that serves all ages (as does its sibling, Cato's, on Piedmont Ave.). No outdoor seating, but it's definitely loud and boisterous. If the evening calls for beer and nachos or mixed drinks and burgers, you don't need to hire a sitter, just bring the tot along. My high school age son has enjoyed Ben & Nick's since toddlerhood, and has fond memories of a celebratory lunch there after his first day of kindergarten.

Pizzaiolo! The outdoor patio is great and depending upon the age of the infant the chickens might be of interest.

My daughter also loved the ceiling fans at Picante when she was very young.
