Stumped in Manchester NH

We have guests in town soon--trying to find a dinner spot, very casual (so our 'usual' go-to's of Cotton, Commercial St., Richards are out). Don't want to do a chain, and no Italian--they have some of the best Italian food in the country at home.

Needs to be in Manchester area...any thoughts Chowhounds? I was considering Strange Brew--how is the food there?

We have some shows coming up at Tupelo in Londonderry. Does anyone know Luciano's Cafe?

whatever you do, don't don't don't do Derryfield Country Club - review soon. Worst place that I spent any money in a long time - I should have known better.

Anyway, what about 900 Degrees or Cactus Jacks (I love their shrimp and they are a small local chain). I'll have to add Strange Brew to my list. Also, I do enjoy the food at Brothers' - very casual. Have fun

Oh Lex do I hear you on DfCC My husband and I were very offended last time we went. They charged a cover charge to eat because they had a band on the deck. We were not on the deck, nor were we interested in hearing the band. They still charged us. From there it went downhill. The food was expensive for what you did get, and the quality was poor for the price. Never again.

Have either of you tried Cafe Momo? I love this place, it's like a little hippie hangout down an alley in Kathmandu.

I tried it a couple years ago and loved it. I should return but I never can find anyone to go with, and I hate going out alone, servers treat you like you have leprosy or something. Hubby is not adventurous by any stretch. Nothing hotter than dijon mustard.

I ate here with a friend on Saturday and there were at least two solo diners, one of whom was clearly a regular. The host was nothing but nice to both. You should try it -- wonderfully spicy and flavorful food.

This sounds like it could be an opportunity for local NH hounders to go to Cafe Momo for a local outing! (I'm available most nights after 6.)

I think Strange Brew would be great, The beer battered fish and chips, onion rings are fantastic, the burgers are huge, and the appetizers are half price from 4-7 most days. Check the daily drink specials as well. Have a great time!

La Carretta for Mexican? KC's Rib Shack for BBQ? I've never been, but UnWined in Bedford always sounds cool...

Unwined is really fun. The evening we went they had a jazz duo which made a great atmosphere. We did a cheese fondue and a chocolate dessert fondue - both superb- but there were other meals on the menu too. The wine choices were unbelievable and the server very knowledgeable.
