Babbo or Spigolo tonight?

There seems to be some grumblings that Babbo has recently took a turn for the worse. I have not been in 6 months and for the last 3 years I have had nothing but very good to great meals there. But that being said there seems to be more complaints about the place (and not the usual trying to knock the king off the throne chatter). With that in mind, would you go to Babbo or Spigolo for dinner tonight? Throw $ comparison out. We have 2 friends in from out of town and my wife has never been to Babbo. Those are the only caveats. Regardless of negative reports, I think Babbo is the much better restaurant overall. If you're looking for another place around Babbo's level, Convivio and Scarpetta come up often on the board as favorites.

Are you currently holding a Babbo reservation, planning to try for a 5:30 walk-in or are you otherwise a VIP? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, I say "Babbo", without hesitation. I have not found Babbo to be going downhill, and given that palates are different, you're going to keep wondering until you check for yourself.

Agre with planetjess. Seriously, a wait for a 4 top will be lengthy. You know it is one of the hardest reservations in town?

Nahhh. Get there at 4:45pm, have a few drinks and you will secure a table 95% of the time. I am just worried about all the negative reports lately.
