Phoenix - Skyharbor area
Our on-line Pinochle league will be meeting in Phoenix this January, staying near the 3000 block of Van Buren. League members come from many different states. We have previously been to Knock Kneed Lobster on Washington and Bill Johnson's on Van Buren chosen primarily for their close locations. While we could and would go back to either, this year we are looking for different suggestions. We would prefer any in the same general area that would be able to accomodate a group of about 20. We are very flexible about food type, menu or price range. As the coordinator for this group, I am looking for something to WOW them. We will be traveling in numerous vehicles so closer rather than farther is preferrable so that we don't lose any in the travel. Thanks in advance.

My favorite place to hit if we happen to arrive near mealtime or if picking up friends from the airport is Quiescence. It seems like back roads to get there, but really is not far from the airport. And the food is really special.

I'd recommend the Stockyards. It's a classic steakhouse and a bit of Phoenix history. It's located on Washington St just east of 48th St. They could easily accomodate a group of 20.
On 44th St., just north of Van Buren, there's the COFCO Chinese Cultural Center. Of the various restaurants there, I think Golden Buddha could best handle a larger group. They serve dim sum at lunch, and a full menu is always available.
In the opposite direction, la Tolteca is at 12th St. & Van Buren. It's a great place for a casual Mexican meal.
Continuing past 7th Street into Downtown, District American Kitchen at the Sheraton hotel is quite nice and could handle your group easily.
Tradiciones at 16th St. & Roosevelt is a full service Mexican restaurant that could easily accomodate your group.
