Union Square Cafe Still a Classic that Delivers

Went to lunch there Saturday and they were nicely accomodating, giving us a noon reservation instead of 12:30 when we said we had a matinee to make. Bruschetta and gnocchi were outstanding, as was the chicken cutlet Milanese and daughter's pasta dish. The banana tart was as good as ever and the service beyond great. It is easy to see, from this out of towner's view, why it consistently ranks so high.

  1. We hadn't been to USC in over a year. We enjoyed a recent visit, still comfortable and welcoming, lovely service, all of which will probably keep us coming back. The duck ravioli was very tasty. One of our party had the calamari, which he said was good but nothing special. My duck entree was good but not wow, although the accompanying sides (sweet potato mash, brussel sprouts, figs) were excellent and set it off very nicely. Overall enjoyable and enough to keep us coming back every year or so. Noticed that at 745p on a Saturday night there were a lot of empty tables. We enjoyed the wine selections, excellent expresso and capuccino, and skipped dessert because we were all full.
