My parents have been there recently and while they said it was pretty decent, it definitely wasn't worth the tariff (most main courses seem to be in the mid-$30 range). If you're looking for Italian in Midtown, I think you can do much better with the two Michael White restaurants in the vicinity, Alto (upscale Northern Italian) and Marea (high-end Italian seafood).
I don't think I could ever go to Piano Due though, since Le Bernardin's front entrance is literally a ten second walk away. It would be far too tempting to just throw caution to the wind and rush through their revolving door.
Yes, I've been and sent friends. All loved it. Very cool entrance where you can stop for a drink before taking the elevator to the second floor dining room (Piano Due means 2nd floor in italian). They are very welcoming and the very italian menu is satisfying. Beautiful room and really an under approved addition to midtown. Hope you like it!
