We are planning a trip with a group of 10-12 people to PS1 in LIC on Sunday, 10/25, and want to find a great place for late lunch/early dinner. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

There's not a whole lot in the immediate vicinity of PS1. But if you're coming from Westchester I assume you'll have a car. You might want to try searching the nearby neighborhoods: Astoria, Sunnyside, and Woodside in Queens, or even Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn.

Are you looking for an upscale restaurant or would a low-key ethnic joint meet your needs? Additional criteria might help us point you in the right direction.

Great - low key ethnic is Queens' strength.

Spicy Mina (as mentioned below) is a good rec. They can definitely accommodate a group of 10+.

Sripraphai is widely considered one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. It's a medium-sized dining room, but can get busy.

De Mole for good Mexican. The main room is small, but there's a side room that they sometimes open up.

I went to PS1 last year and afterwards a group of us had lunch at Spicy Minas, a very good Indian place. It's small, but I seem to remember a couple of large tables. It's worth a call to see if they can accommodate you.

I don't think you need to go all the way to Spicy Minas. PS 1 is in Long Island City which is a great place to be. There are plenty of good restaurants in the neighborhood that you can walk to. Manducatis Rustica is amazing. Five Star Punjabi has some of the best Indian food in the city. You should look these up under LIC posts. You can also walk along the water for an added treat of the most wonderful views of the city. That being said Sripraphai is a great and very popular Thai restaurant not a far drive away.

You didn't mention transportation Nancy C, but if you have a car Spicy Mina's is about a 5 to 8 minute drive from PS 1.

Spicy Mina's can be hit or miss, and I wouldn't chance it for 10-12 people, as that could spell disaster. Srip isn't exactly around the corner, but if you have never been, it is always consistently excellent, and there is a huge selection to choose from. If you're going on an off hour there on the weekend, you would be okay in terms of wait time, but I would call ahead and see if they can set aside a table for you. De Mole is a small place, but it's good, and as someone suggested they have added another room, and it's not too far in Sunnyside. There is also the Korean place, that several people like called Natural Tofu also in Sunnyside..has gotten good yelp reviews and good chowhound reviews..let us know where you end up...

Due to time constraints, we wound up at regular Manducati's just down the street, which was ok, not great. I make better manicotti. Branzino special was very nice. Gnocchi more leaden than I'd hoped, but sauce was tasty. Homemade tiramisu was the best I'd had in awhile. We'll be returning to see our friend's exhibit again so will try some of the other fine suggestions you've made! Thanks!
