You can use banana leaves and from a previous post on finding banana leaves http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/546246
Only fresh ti leaves I've seen are from people who grow them or have people from Hawaii bring them.

Banna or Ti leaves are for wrapping the Lau lau. The lau lau or Taro leaves are the part you eat with the pork, butterfish, etc.. Can not find fresh leaves to make lau luas.
I don't like to use spinach leaves as the taste is not authentic. Used find them once in awhile at Pacific Square Market, now Marukai. They sell out quick.
I may opt to buying online the frozen ones....

You need a Filipino market. There's Seafood City in the Valley and Eagle Rock (haven't been in a long while) but for sure for sure they have had fresh taro leaves at Island Pacific (on South St near Los Cerritos Centre). Call before you head down there, but they had it when I went to have a Five Guys burger two weeks ago, cheap and very fresh-looking.

Since the OP asked for South Bay, there's also a Seafood City in Carson. Corner of Carson Blvd and Main St. Don't know if they stock the leaves, though.

Well, Cerritos isn't TOO far from the South Bay... and that's where I saw it at Island Pacific.
