A friend and I are doing a whirlwind trip of the South Island during the middle of December. I need some good tips on restaurants in the following cities:
Wellington
Nelson
Hokitika (or surrounding area)
Queenstown.

Expense isn't a consideration. Just quality.

Definitely in Christchurch try Restaurant Schwass on Ferry Road for gutsy and honest food from a dedicated chef. Also the Twisted Hop has excellent brews and well priced and good food

I had a great meal at Cook 'N With Gas in Christchurch--hokey name but great food. I'll be looking for good meals in Queenstown and Dunedin in January so I hope you report back.
