Trina's to open today

bostonbroad Sep 25, 2009 06:18 AM

I didn't do a good check to see if this has already been posted, but for those of you who have been waiting, thought I'd drop a quick note to say they are opening today. Can't wait to see the reviews....

It actually opened 2 nights ago I think :) Tonight is the grand opening. Have seen nothing but positive stories.

Normally I try to give a place a few weeks, but the initial reports made it sound like they're already firing on all cylinders (hear that Friendly Toast? They don't flounder for 3 months and still blame 'we just opened'). Unfortunately though, won't be able to get there for a while anyways. I'm really looking forward to the chicken & waffles and the alfa sour

Had the alfa sour last night. Quite tasty!

I've gotten early rave reports from several people this week, too. Excellent story in this week's Improper Bostonian that's a kind of backstage look at the principals' menu planning process. For instance, that chicken and waffles is expected to be a big hit, so they goosed the margin on it. Fascinating stuff.

Heh, that would explain why it seemed more expensive than other stuff. Doh!

Trina's is in the space formerly occupied by the Abbey Lounge, just over the Somerville line outside of Inman Square: 3 Beacon St, Somerville.

A friend of mine told me that they left the bathrooms exactly the same, which led to a somewhat surreal experience when he went in there. "Wait, am I in the Abbey?"

The bathroom is exactly the same with the exception of the holes in the drywall being patched up. Sadly people have already written on the wall.

I mean, the stalls are completely covered with vintage ads...not sure what else there would be to do.

They are indeed. Went last night. Totally fun. Did not eat because we went late. Josh was waiting tables. Think there was a line at some point. Staff all super friendly and low key - felt a lot like Silvertones in its low-key-ness. Went w/ friends in town from NY who were my running buds at West Street in the 90s when Josh ruled the bar there. Felt like home. Can't wait to try the food. Love love love it.

There definitely was a line on friday. Same friend I mentioned before went over there around 9 and said it wasn't packed, but then 15 or so later the floodgates opened and there was a line (which led to he & the folks he was with leaving in search of a less crowded spot).

Yay! A new neighborhood joint. Now if only the restaurant slated for the former B-side space would open.

Will Trina's have any live music or is it strictly food and drinks?

No live music...just bartenders' iPods (the two rooms are wired separately).
There is a TV on the Abbey side though and they will put the game on if you want...no TV on the zbar side.

As rknrll said, no live music. Apparently they tried, but the neighbors fought back and wouldn't let them.

Really liked the staff. The food was tasty but we thought the menu was a little spare for a cocktail place -- sandwiches and hot dogs aren't exactly what you're expecting when it looks like a cocktail lounge. I can see they want cheap comfort food but it doesn't match the atmosphere. I'll probably just go back for drinks and eat at ECG.
