Komi Questions
I will be dining at Komi for the first time next month and I can not put into words how excited I am for this experience. I am dining here to celebrate my one year anniversary with my girlfriend. I have a couple of questions.
I told Komi it was a special occasion, any ideas what they will do for it?
I was wondering from all the chowhounders who have been here before what most guests wear in the restaurant? Is a suit appropriate?
Is the more prefered way of dining here the $90 prix fixe "dinner" or the $125 prix fixe degustation?
Also in regards to the Degustation menu are you allowed to tell them foods you dislike?
I want to make this experience as memorable as possible I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
We celebrated my husband's and son's birthdays there last year. They will do something special and it will be low-key and tasteful. If you have a special request, let them know.
As far as dresscode goes, people dress in a wide range. Everything from suits to jeans and a nice shirt. A sportcoat and tie would be very acceptable.
I think most people go with the degustation...believe me, you will not regret it!! Why cheat yourself out of all Komi has to offer? With regard to foods you dislike, I'd call them and discuss it beforehand.
Congratulations on your anniversary and have a fabulous evening!

Every meal at Komi starts with "mezzethakia" so whether you get the degustation menu or not you will still get a fantastic selection of small bites. Between us we have a couple of food allergies and as I recall they were happy to accomodate us for the mezzethakia, but they suggested that we'd be better off ordering something we liked (and could eat) off the menu rather than getting the degustation menu, and I was really happy with the lamb as a main course.

My boyfriend took me there for dinner on my birthday- I was nervous about trying the degustation menu (what if there was something I didn't like?) but he was so excited about it that I threw caution to the wind... and it was awesome. I ate things I never would have tried otherwise, and almost all of them were delicious and it was fun. It took 3-4 hours and was 21 diffferent dishes I think, but well worth it all. I still talk about it today as one of the most incredible dining experiences I have had. I would totally spring for the tasting menu. You won't forget it.
