San Diego IB Ice Cream Shop

I am heading down to Imperial Beach Saturday and remember something about ice cream shops. Did a search and from what I can remember its Niederfranks or Oasis. Which one? I generally am more of either super rich chocolate or more of a fruit flavored person.

Oasis is the one you want. It's very rich, made only from heavy cream, sugar, and whatever the flavor is. It's Mexico City-style ice cream, the owner's been making it for more than 40 years. Try the vanilla, rice pudding, peanut butter.

If fruit is your thing, try their frutas. They're intensely flavored with stuff like guava, tamarind, watermelon, strawberries, etc. The tamarind is a big favorite of mine, very refreshing.

One thing you may want to do is bring a little cooler with you. They make bars of most of their flavors, including banana dipped in chocolate then coated with coconut and peanuts.

Niederfrank's is great but they're in National City. It's on your way if you're taking the 5 South. I believe there's an Oasis in IB but I haven't had their ice cream, so I can't make a rec.
