Il Cantinori

I haven't been here in ages...and wondering if it is still as good as I remember...has anyone been lately that has thoughts to share?

  1. Went earlier this year, and thought it was unbelievably mediocre. Very uninspired red sauce Italian. I think anyone with a jar of Prego, a box of dried pasta and a pot of hot water could do better.

    1. The first time I ate in Il Cantinori was in 1986 or thereabouts. It was absolutely wonderful. Real Northern Italian food circa 1986 was relatively new, at least to me, and I loved every forkful. Over the next couple of years the place became the go-to family restaurant although my family was much too plebian (and I don't mean that as harshly as it may sound) to appreciate what Pino was doing. But shortly thereafter I began to notice a steady and percipitious decline in the food. It never recovered its early glory. I am amazed the restaurant still exists. But I will always be thankful I had those great food experiences that trained my palate for the future.

      1. I love Il Cantinori and it is my, "go to" restaurant. The food is just as godd as ever and I especially like the liver. I did however, see a post on eater today which discussed how it has become mediocre.

        I'm still a fan.
