For 2 out of towners. We are staying in West Hollywood and want to keep driving to a minimum. We like mexican, italian, asian, and festive ambiance. I am the foodie and he not so much so the local opinion would be much appreciated!

Cecconi's on Melrose and Robertson. Very nice interior with a great bar scene. Good drinks and solid bar menu.

I've only had a full dinner there once and was underwhelmed, but that was early on and the quality of the bar menu (cicchetti) allows me to think that I might have had an off night. I've eaten at the bar many times and have been very satisfied.

If you're doing a dinner during the warm weather lately, I'd definitely try and get a table outside.

Also if you decide to do dinner elsewhere- Cecconi's is open for breakfast and it's great.

Especially since you're out-of-towners, I highly recommend Gardens of Taxco; it's on Harper, just north of Santa Monica Bl., in the 8200 block of SM. Closed Mondays. This place serves a five-course Mexico-city-style dinner (not Tex-Mex) for under $20. Entrees include shrimp in cilantro sauce, carne asada, chicken mole, etc.
