Sweetzels Spiced Wafers in Florida?

Florida Hound Sep 22, 2009 06:29 PM

I just posted on a Pennsylvania thread about a tradition around Philly called "Ivins Spiced Wafers" and their apparent competitor, "Sweetzels Spiced Wafers," available only in the Fall. I have run across the "Sweetzels" in Florida in years past, in the Fall months.
I am asking if anyone has any Florida leads for where these tasty ginger cookies are hiding this year...more to the point, where they are actually available in our Sunshine State this year!

According to the Sweetzels site Wal-Mart, among others, carries them.

A few years ago my wife started an autumn tradition of having spiced wafers in our home. We just got some this past week from the Aruntx Premium Shopping Marketplace http://aruntx.com/ and they are wonderful, the package was very carefully packaged and not one broken spiced wafer cookie. They carry Sweetzels Spiced Wafers, Ivins Spiced Wafers and Sweetzels Ginger Snaps, along with other gourmet foods and gifts. Highly recommend.

I prefer Ivins which has a bit more depth than the others. Ginger snaps? Fuggedaboutit

OCTOBER, 2010: Its that time again- Does anybody in Central Florida have some further suggestions about that Philadelphia treat called Sweetzels Spiced Wafers? No, WalMart does not carry them. I would rather not order on-line if possible. Thanks again from Florida Hound.

Just checking in, as I have before, for any ChowHound suggestions or leads for Sweetzels or Ivins in stores in Florida??? They are a Fall-only commodity, a Pennsylvania tradition. In 2011, I did find a source for Sweetzels on-line (a bit cheaper than aruntx.com, if I remember), but it would be nice to know they do exist somewhere in a real brick-and-mortor store in FL, too. Thanks for your help, guys,

            My annual plea:
Does anyone know of a source for Sweetzels Spiced Wafers or Ivins Spiced Wafers in Central Florida? Last year, I had to mail-order to PA, but I am still holding out hope a Chowhound has some Florida isources. Thanks.

Can't help you with central FL, but I have bought them, believe it or not, at a Big Lots in Miami, near the intersection of the Palmetto (route 826) and Flagler St, in a shopping center which is on Flagler. It's a stone's throw from the 826 exit ramp. But I can't think of a reason why a central FL resident would want to drive to Miami. Those cookies are addictive.

But Big Lots??? I would not have thought to check there, so I will check my local Big Lots. Appreciate the tip.
