BEST PLACE to buy PIES in Baltimore area???

Want to pick up a nice couple of pies as a house gift when I am down in Baltimore visiting this weekend !

We have a car and will be in Baltimore , then up by Loyola area and Towson visiting.

Thanks!

I will reiterate--the Amish store pies. Went to the Hunt Valley location yesterday and bought a pecan pie "to die for." I've never tasted a creamier pie with luscious toasted pecans and the pe crust was divine. Also bought a caramel/apple pie that is out of this world.

Went totally crazy and purchased sticky buns, which I haven't tried. But, the bell pepper/fennel buns are fantastic. Had one with dinner last night and dipped pieces into seasoned olive oil. A real treat. Now, I'm off to the gym to work off all of the yummy calories. FoiGras

While not in Baltimore, Catoctin Mountain Orchard in Thurmont, MD has the BEST pies I've ever had. I usually make a trip there every few months to pick up a dozen frozen pies (anything apple is the best).

I could be wrong but I would say no. Anything you find there will be shipped there from another location and certainly not baked on premises.

Atwater's in Belvedere Square bakes pies, but you have to call a day or two before.
And their location fits your plans. I have not had one of theirs this year, but have found them better than Eddie's (Roland Ave. location) and a better value than the overpriced DD pies, in year's past.

Dangerously Delicious Pies or one of the area Amish Markets seem to be the main candidates in response to such questions in the past. Do a search on either for more details in prior threads.

I have no opinion, having little experience with either.

I agree with "Warthog," the Amish markets have wonderful pies. I've not tried Dangerously Delicious Pies but, correct me if I'm wrong, didn't they go out of business? I hope not, but thought I'd read that they have closed shop. FoiGras

Dangerously Delicious is still around, although i think they closed their shop in Hampden. The Federal Hill store is still open, and they sell at the JFX farmer's market.

That said, I'm not a big fan of their pies.

My wife disagrees with me but I prefer Graul's bakery in Ruxton for pies. They have a great bakery (other than formal cakes...yuck) and their pies are top notch. Call ahead to order and tell them the time you are coming and the pies will still be warm when you pick-up. My favorite is the Deep Dish Apple (must ask for deep dish and not regular) and the cost is under $10. My wife prefer Wegmann's but I think they are really overpriced (like $20+) and nothing spectacular. The suggestion of the Amish market is also a good one and there is one in Hunt Valley.

I love Graul's in Ruxton. Since I no longer live in Ruxton, I surely miss the wonderful service of that tiny grocery. Yes, the cakes were sub-par, but pies were good. Yet, not as delectable as those at the Amish Market.

Never bought a pie at Wegman's. Found their desert section way over priced.

What about Eddie's on Charles Street? I don't believe they would be a contender in great pies, so I still stay by my suggestion as to the Amish market(s).

Wondering about Patisserie Poupon? Do they offer a pie selection? I seem to believe that their specialty is based on cakes. Correct me if I am wrong. FoiGras

Eddies makes very decent pies, and they also carry (or used to) Baugher's pies, from the Baugher family orchards out in Carroll County.

                      Poupon does not do pies.

Bear with me here - since I am not all that familiar with Baltimore - - where is Ruxton? IN Baltimore proper - I will google Grauls and see what I can find in the meantime !!!

Sorry about that...Ruxton is a neighborhood in West Towson. The Graul's store is located on Bellona Ave. in 21204 zip code. If you are heading to Loyola (I am Grad!) and up to Towson it will be right on the way. Graul's has a reputation as being a small independently-owned grocery that caters to the well-to-do....but their bakery is top notch and very inexpensive IMO.

I've enjoyed some of the DD pies while others have been just okay. Does Patisserie Poupon make pies (or is it just cakes)?
