I have a friend who managed to get a date with a celebrity/model type and is to take her out to dinner, but she wants to go somewhere very discrete where she would't get noticed. The twist is he does not have a lot of money and so the standard "private dining" concepts are too rich for him. anyone have any suggestions for a very discrete place with good food/drinks/vibe? I think the options in private dining thread, which I pointed to, are great, but he said way too pricey. Thanks for any suggestions..

Does it have to be in Manhattan? Brooklyn might actually work better (especially somewhere like Zenkichi).

Corner table at apizz. No windows. Darkly lit. Gently priced. Romantic. Great food. Out of the way, quiet street so no one will see them getting in/out of cab.

the nice thing about NYC is that she might not get noticed, or at least bothered any good place. I've had many a celeb/model sighting in NYC and it was never a hullabaloo or issue

Took the words from my mouth! I was just about to write that!

If Cameron Diaz can sit outside Gemma, I'm sure his lady friend will be fine anywhere.

Its hard to faze New Yorkers.

I actually sat next to Cameron Diaze and Justin Timberlake at Cafe Habana a few years ago.. I only learned I was sitting next to her (I recognized Justin Timberlake) one year later when my companion of the time was recounting the story...

Prune might work for this. It's not super-cheap, but it is small and out of the way. Excellent food, great vibe. I've actually eaten there next to a B-list celeb who enjoyed her meal completely uninterruped.

But I have to agree with other posters here. I've never seen a celeb who has had their dinner interruped by others in the restaurant. In fact I've seen the opposite... where a B/C lister makes eye contact with people on the way out to see if they are recognized. It's hilarious.
