In desperate need of foie lobe for TONIGHT

Hi hounders,

I am having great difficulty in finding some foie (a half lobe would be preferred) for this evening. The one Cumbrae's location open today does not have any in stock (!), Whitehouse is not answering their phone (don't think they are open), The Healthy Butcher is not answering their phone either. Can someone direct me to a butcher anywhere in the downtown core that has some or is open? Thanks!

  1. Have you tried the other Whitehouse locations? I have never had luck reaching their Bayview location, but the SLM...ah, yes, it's monday. Try the Bayview location. Not exactly downtown, but close enough.

Here are some suggestions, no guarantees:

Try giving Alex Farms a call (Danforth) They MIGHT have it or could point you in the right direction.

I've seen it once at Loblaws at Queens Quay.

    Pusateri's in Yorkville.

One of those shops in Summerhill (e.g. Olliffe) is a good bet.

If you want a good deal on foie, Butcher Shoppe in Etobicoke has them for $50/lb.

Thanks so much for the help GG! I ended up reserving some from McEwans. Not exactly downtown but it works out with a friend who has a car.

Well, hopefully the list is still useful to some people. I've been meaning to post about the Butcher Shoppe's price. I haven't done much comparison pricing, but $50/lb seems like a very good price. I know Whitehouse charges $75/lb.

Unfortunately, the market isn't open on Mondays.

Bruno's at Yonge and Heath often has it.

      2. HB doesn't carry foie so you know, goes against their "ethics" so to speak.

        1. Believe it or not they sometimes have it at the Big Carrot, although in all honesty I haven't noticed it recently. I remember once they had, just sitting in the self serve butcher meat cooler a ful kilogram of block foie for 100.00

You might also try Blackstone on Danforth in the future

          1. Just thought I'd let people know that McEwan charges $114/kg, which is actually quite competitive, although some connective tissue and vein were present in one of the sections. I don't mind paying more $ for livers already deveined. My fault for not getting clarification if they were already deveined/cleaned.

Considering the pricing on other products at McEwans...that price for foie gras is amazing.

Agreed-I was quite shocked at the price as well.
