The Sunday Supper at Dovetail is very enjoyable and a bargain, $38 prix fixe. Several courses, but all are relatively small, so it's on the light side. Great flavors, interesting combinations, and a quiet, soothing ambiance most conducive to conversation.

I would recommend Bar Breton, on 5th Av., b/t 27th & 28th Sts. Delicious food (many light fare dishes on the menu), good service, pleasant ambiance, and prices that fit your budget.
